The 240 employees who participated in Scale Back Give Back lost a total of 750 pounds. AMERICAN is donating a pound of food for every pound lost by participants to First Baptist Church of ACIPCO, which is located across the street from the plant.

AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company pledged to donate a pound of food for every pound lost and presented a check to the church on August 8, equivalent to 750 pounds of food or enough to provide 625 meals. The church will use the money to provide meals for low-income neighbors.

Every fifth Saturday, the church provides a hot meal and words of encouragement to between 30 and 40 people in the community. Church members also deliver carryout boxes to the elderly and those who are sick and unable to leave their homes.

“It’s a very meaningful ministry where we can see people smile when they get a meal. We appreciate ACIPCO. Whatever the needs are for our church and the community, they always come forth to help.”

“We will use the donation to provide for those in need in our community, and it will help us strengthen and expand what we are already doing,” said the Rev. Dr. Todd Morrell, who has pastored First Baptist Church of ACIPCO for 12 years. “It’s a very meaningful ministry where we can see people smile when they get a meal. We appreciate ACIPCO. Whatever the needs are for our church and the community, they always come forth to help.”

The church will hold the ACIPCO-Finley Food Drive on September 30. If you would like to donate items, they can be dropped off at the church. Items needed include: peanut butter, jelly, dry beans, rice, canned goods, oatmeal, pasta, spaghetti sauce and other nonperishables.

Scale Back Give Back was a weight management program that ran from January to June. It was designed to encourage employees to lose weight and keep it off. Scale Back was the initial weight loss challenge, followed by Give Back, a continuation of losing weight or maintaining one’s current weight.
