Carter Receives PRCA Professional Achievement Award

AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company Communications Manager Joy Carter, APR, is the recipient of the 2014 Phillip R. Forrest Jr. Professional Achievement Award from the Public Relations Council of Alabama (PRCA). This is the highest award given to an individual by PRCA and recognizes those who are outstanding in the field of public relations. Carter was presented the award at PRCA’s state conference on April 2.

Carter’s more than 20 years of experience in public relations/communications includes work in non-profit, government, higher education and corporate communications. In her current role at AMERICAN, she is responsible for the company’s internal and external communications programs, creative and distribution services. She received her bachelor’s degree in PR/communications from Auburn University and her Masters Certificate in Human Resources from Cornell University. She is Accredited in Public Relations (APR) and is a recognized Senior Practitioner by the Southern Public Relations Federation (SPRF).

Carter is an active member and past state president of PRCA and a recipient of the Birmingham Chapter’s Practitioner of the Year. She currently serves as a member of the advisory council for the School of Public Health at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and on the board of directors for Junior Achievement of Greater Birmingham. She is also a member of the Public Relations Society of America and the Birmingham Society for Human Resource Management.
