AMERICAN Valves Are Timely for University of Alabama Improvements

Owner:

University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Ala.

Project Summary:

When it was imperative that improvements be done on time to the University of Alabama’s Campus Drive, Summit Pipe and Supply needed a reliable supplier of valves and hydrants. The Tuscaloosa-based distributor chose AMERICAN.

“There was no way you could have a football game in Tuscaloosa if the Campus Drive improvements weren’t complete,” said Doug Pugh, president of Summit Pipe and Supply in Northport, Ala. “The work didn’t start until the spring, and it had to be finished before football season started around Labor Day. That’s all there was to it.”

“ AMERICAN...did everything they said they would to help us supply this material in a time frame that would exceed the requirements of the contract and the contractor.”
Doug Pugh, Summit Pipe and Supply

Key Players:

Construction work was done by GILCO Construction (Tuscaloosa, Ala.); Summit Pipe and Supply was the distributor.

What They Said:

“AMERICAN expedited shipment of 24-inch and 36-inch valves, and I think they had delivered all the valves within two weeks after we released the order. So, they did everything they said they would to help us supply this material in a time frame that would exceed the requirements of the contract and the contractor.- Doug Pugh, Summit Pipe and Supply

What They Used:

The initial quote for the job consisted of 39 valves ranging from 6 to 36 inches in diameter. That included three 36-inch resilient wedge gate valves and four in 24-inch diameters. The order also included six fire hydrants.
