Planning for a new wastewater treatment plant in Pensacola, Fla., had already begun when Hurricane Ivan hit in 2004. But that planning accelerated after Ivan’s Category 3 winds pummeled the area, knocked out operations at the city’s downtown wastewater treatment plant and caused untreated sewage to flow in the streets with Ivan’s storm surge.
ECUA’s response to the hurricane is now the state-of-the-art Central Water Reclamation Facility (CWRF), which began operations in August 2010.Read More
In 2012, Columbia County Water Utility completed installation of its North Belair Road transmission main in Martinez, Ga. The pipeline is more than four miles long and is 36 inches in diameter. In terms of diameter, this is the utility’s largest water main.Read More
