Read AMERICAN’s Studies on Panama Canal and HDD, Presented at ASCE Pipelines

The following studies were presented at the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Pipelines conference in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 18 and 19, 2016. The research paper, Ductile Iron Piping Systems Used on the Design and Construction of Third Set of Locks Project, and The City of Lafayette, Louisiana: Another Positive First Experience With HDD Installation Using Ductile Iron Pipe, as published in Pipelines 2016: Out of Sight, Out of Mind, Not Out of Risk, are available in the ASCE Library online.

Gabriel E. Restrepo, a sales engineer and area manager with ACIPCO International Sales, presented on the challenges of designing, specifying and building the water system that runs under the recently expanded Panama Canal. Approximately 80,000 feet of ductile iron pipe is buried beneath the Panama Canal’s expanded footprint, providing potable water, dewatering and fire protection to the new locks’ facilities and surrounding communities. Ralph R. Carpenter, Industrial Sales and Trenchless project manager, presented on Lafayette, Louisiana’s positive first experience with Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) using ductile iron pipe. The project involved three successful HDD pulls of 1,140, 940 and 740 feet. Read the study here.
