Fancher Named Research and Development Manager

Al Fancher has been named research and development manager at AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company (AMERICAN).

Fancher joined AMERICAN in 1977 and worked in the Foundry Service Unit before beginning his electrician’s apprenticeship, which he completed in 1983. Fancher then worked as a journeyman in Electrical, an electronics technician in Research and Testing, and a research engineer. He was working as research project manager until his recent promotion.

Fancher served in the Air National Guard for 25 years. He received his associate’s degree in applied science engineering in 1988 and earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham in 1993. Fancher also completed his associate’s degree in applied science avionic systems technology from the Community College of the Air Force in 1998.

Fancher is a member of the American Water Works Association, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and ACIPCO Leadership Association. He is a licensed professional engineer in Alabama and Florida and completed the University of Alabama’s management certification program for supervisors. He is also an amateur photographer.

Founded in 1905, Birmingham, Alabama-based AMERICAN is a manufacturer of ductile iron pipe, spiral-welded steel pipe, fire hydrants and valves for the waterworks industry and electric-resistance welded steel pipe for the oil and natural gas industries. AMERICAN’s diversified product line also includes static castings and fire pumps.
